The Attitude of the MLM

Some may think that businesses and corporations are cold and indifferent, more of a machine. But while there are certainly machine like processes in most big businesses, they also work hard to create a particular culture or attitude throughout the business. This is true for MLMs; in fact attitude could be one of the most important factors on whether a MLM and its members succeed.

The Top of the MLM

As with most things, attitude begins at the top. The owners of a MLM set the business into motion and determine how it is to function. Mary Kay Ash, of Mary Kay, decided that her MLM company would be run following the Golden Rule, meaning that all the Mary Kay members were going to be expected to treat each others and the customers fairly and ethically. Any sponsor or distributor that did not want to do this did not belong in the Mary Kay family. Every MLM has a definite set of beliefs in how the company is run and it always starts with the owners.

Early Recruits

Starting an MLM is not easy. There are many decisions regarding product, distribution, marketing, legal issues, etc. To go through everything it takes to get the MLM up and running, an owner must really believe in their product. The owners must have a passion for their MLM, and want to do whatever they can to make it a success. And when recruiting they must find others who can pick up on their passion and make it their own. MLMs more than many other businesses need a passionate commitment from the top down.

Sustaining the Drive

When an MLM is growing they must foster the attitude of passion for the product and system in all its members. Every day the MLM is trying to sell their product and system and that only happens if there is a passion to make it happen. They need their sponsors to want to recruit new distributors every day. They need their distributors to want to sell product everyday. That drive to accomplish goals everyday is what the MLM demands if it is going to become successful. When a MLM is growing, they must keep their sales force motivated. It is important that while they do not want to create unrealistically high monthly goals, that they also don’t make them so low that distributors can relax and sell the minimum and still profit.

Successful MLMs

Once a MLM reaches the top, say an Avon or Mary Kay, there is room for the more casual distributor. These are the direct sellers that are happy with part-time hours, selling to regular customers. The MLM still wants them passionate about the company and its ideals, but it has reached the point where it can have distributors that take care of sales only, with no interest in becoming a major sponsor. As long as there are plenty of passionate members recruiting new people and creating large forces to generate the sales, the MLM can remain successful and at the top of the industry.
